Biography of Ken Swerilas

I have been in the motion picture industry for over thirty years. I started in the accounting department at Universal Studios in the early sixties, moved on to Columbia Studios as accountant for outside productions. Shortly afterward I was offered the position of controller for Robert Aldrich Productions in charge of accounting and financial administration as well as production accountant on four of his pictures. After that I decided to freelance.

As a freelancer I worked on forty plus projects of varying types including theatrical motion pictures, movies of the week, mini series, a couple of episodics and a few movies made for video. These projects took me to over 18 states and over 12 countries in Europe, several of which were former soviet bloc countries including a few Asiatic countries.

Some of the projects I worked on were headquartered at major motion picture studios.  Domestically these include:  Universal, Columbia, MGM, Warner Brothers, CBS Studio Center and Paramount.  Overseas these include Pinewood Studios and EMI Elstree Studios, London,Studios Boulogne- Billancourt,  Paris, CCC Studios, former West Berlin, Bavaria Film Studios, Munich, Studios Barrandov, Prague and Jadran Film Studios, Zagreb.

My hobbies are phonograph record collecting which I have over twenty two thousand recordings dating from the beginning of sound recordings to the 1950's. Most of these recordings are composed of 1920's and 1930's Jazz, Blues, Country and Personalities.  The earlier recordings are golden age classics and a variety of pre and turn of the century personalities.  Secondly, I collect 1930's through 1950's feature films and musical short subjects.

As a result of the record collection I consider myself an expert in the field of recorded music prior to the "Rock" period.  As regards to films, between my own films and films that belong to film collector friends, I have watched over 1500 films, most of which, were and are classics of their time.  This has allowed me to have a real feel for the elements of successful films.  Many of these elements, though somewhat dated, still work with a little modernization.  George Lucas and Steven Spielberg incorporated these elements in their successful "STAR WARS' which took twelve years to get off the ground due to a lack of faith from potential investors.  The rest is history.
